How to avoid Shell Extension errors and speed up opening of files?

You system will start to hang for around 7 to 12 seconds when you right click on a file to open it, or when you right click on a browser to open a link in a new tab or window. You might be wondering about reason for that and also would have thought of viruses. You might also contemplate formatting it or recovering it.

The main reason for this is shell extensions. When you right click on a file in your disk, you get a menu, but over a period of time when you keep installing new software, this menu size will increase. This results in the slowing down of your system.

How to avoid this? Most of the programs that you install will have an option to remove shell extension. You can open the programs and check for that setting option and then remove it. If you find that option to be difficult then you should try NriSoft’s Shell Extension Manager. The software is named as ShellExView.

Run it and you will be able to see a lot of shell extensions. It will also help you in understanding which shell extensions are built in and which all belong to Microsoft, so this will help you in deciding what all extensions you need to remove. You can remove one extension after the other and find out which is the main reason for slowing down. The best part is the software is portable, very small and free
